CIAA’s policy mainly aims at regulating approaches to quality schemes, novel foods and ingredients, additives and enzymes, additives and flavourings, enzymes, nutrition and health claims, vitamins and minerals additives, labeling and obesity.

The European Commission is currently reviewing the ETS directive, and plans to table a proposal for revised legislation in 2007.

The CIAA has criticized the scheme for being a heavy administrative burden on small plants, which is often disproportionate to the low level of their actual emissions.

The importance of the scheme for the food and drink sector is reflected in the fact that, for instance, in France small percentage of all ETS installations are food and drink sites. CIAA AISBL, the Confederation of the Food and Drink Industries of the European Union, is an international association registered under Belgian law. Its mission is to represent the interests of the food and drink industry at European and international level.

CIAA said the food industry has accessed the functioning of the system and has concluded that procedures must be harmonized among regulators issuing alerts to avoid different interpretations of the law.

CIAA finds it important to evaluate the validity, accuracy and necessity of notifications carefully and to make the outside reader aware of existing national legislation that can trigger results. The association stated to use the system as an effective communication tool, emphasizing on the fact that information is important, and it is also necessary in order to avoid misleading or contradictory warnings as some warnings are not food safety related.

The CIAA also called for the food operator concerned to be informed of the problem as part of the procedure as early as possible. The operator must have the right to provide further information, such as test results, in order to add to the evaluation.

The CIAA’s membership is made up of 24 national federations, including two observers. There are 32 EU sector associations, 21 major food and drink companies grouped together in a liaison committee.

Elizabeth White’s, 14 months, first encounter with peanuts turned into a disaster when the toddler’s airways clogged. So, how we can train kids and make them immune to food allergies?

Researchers find that the allergies can be limited by adapting the child to the foods he is not allowed to take and with oral immunotherapy. It just may work, suggest preliminary results from a handful of youngsters allergic to peanuts or eggs - and who, after two years of treatment, seem protected enough that an accidental bite of the forbidden foods is no longer a huge threat. The worry levels of parents will really go.

Allergies to pollen and other environmental triggers often are treated with shots called immunotherapy.

A series of injections containing small amounts of the allergen builds up patients’ tolerance, reducing or even eliminating symptoms in many people.

Food allergies involve an interaction between the body’s immune system and the protein in a particular food. The allergy antibody involved in food allergy is called immunoglobulin E (IgE). It is important to distinguish true food allergies from other reactions because true allergies can lead to severe or potentially fatal reactions called anaphylaxis. This is why you may hear food allergy referred to as anaphylactic food allergy.

Cow’s milk, eggs and peanuts trigger the most common food allergies for children. Food allergies are most common in the first three years of life. Allergies are very common; some people are allergic to milk products, some to wheat, some to nuts and some to specific food. The simplest way to stay away from allergies is by taking safety, preventive measures.

Five sliced food and pee soup will be off the menu under a plan to try to standardize the English names of dishes and drinks sold in Beijing restaurants before the 2008 Olympics.

Misspelt food
like complicated cake, pee soup, five sliced things, and dumplings stuffed with ovary, digestive glands of a crab and crab in the glass, the carp literally getting translated as crap, are being banished from the city at eating places.

It’s not only the restaurants where the English language is being slaughtered due to funny translation and spellings, but the road signs too.

Examples abound in shopping complexes and malls with signboards displaying ‘fuck the certain price goods’.

At many places the English translation for the China linguistic word ‘entrance’ becomes ‘Enter the mouth”.

To avoid the red faces in the Olympics 2008, Chinese government is eager to set up a major drive to standardize use of English in public, called the ‘Beijing speaks to the world committee’, which scours the capital seeking out menus or road signs lost in mistranslation. It has translated more than 1,000 dishes and drinks so far. ‘We welcome public participation and suggestions,’ The committee told the Beijing Daily.

More people are learning English in China, and the standard has improved in recent years.

Do have passion for chocolates. I must admit that one of my great delights in life is chocolate. It does not matter what kind of chocolate it is, just as long as it is chocolate. It’s very difficult to find someone who does not like chocolate.

The draw to chocolate is universal and makes chocolate, in any form, size or shape, a most popular gift. This is as true for adults as it is for kids; do you know any child that didn’t love trick-or-treating or getting a box of chocolates for Valentine’s Day when they were more mature? No matter if you are big or small, chocolate is a fantastic gift for just anyone.

Bite your tongue! Evidence is mounting that some kinds of chocolate are actually good for you. Here’s the latest about the healthy side of your chocolate eating habit and taste-tested advice on what to try.

Chocolates are rich in magnesium, enhance brain function and digestion. They contain Anandamine, also known as bliss chemical, have high content of Phenylethlyamine and are referred to as love drug. Raw coco powder (sometimes spelt as cacao powder) has no chemicals.

It helps in keeping our heart healthy, keeps blood pressure normal, improve muscle strength, helps in brain gain and metabolism too.

Scientists at the Harvard University School of Public Health recently examined 136 studies on coco, the foundation for chocolate, and found that it does seem to boost heart health.

Coco is rich in flavonoids that make skin rich in moisture, smoother and less scaly. Flavonoids absorb UV light, help protect and increase blood flow to the skin, improving its appearance.

Drinking eight glasses of water a day helps you remove the waste products in your body. During summers you need more water ,so you need to drink more than eight glasses a day.

As during this time you perspire a lot and if you drink less water, try to compensate by taking more of other fluids. This will help you flush away the waste.

Drinking an adequate amount of water every day is the best treatment for fluid retention. It helps relieve constipation. But when your body is given less water than it needs, it automatically perceives the shortage as a threat to survival and will begin to retain every drop. Water reserves are stored in extra cellular spaces (outside the cells). This water can show up as swollen feet, hands and legs.

Your body can only tolerate certain sodium concentrations. The more salt you eat, the more water your system retains to dilute it. But getting rid of unwanted salt is easy, just drink more water.

And folks, this is not enough, you can even get rid of that extra flab too. How? Check out here.

The Easiest and simple way to relish broccoli is when it is fresh. Broccoli with wine and garlic is a delicious recipe.

Broccoli is a vegetable from Cabbage family, rich in vitamin A and D. It can prevent cancer. During winters, one can opt for broccoli, as it develops the best during this season. Add Broccoli and cook, tossing regularly for eight to ten minute, until the stem is tender. Add wine and slow down the cooking.

I am sure that liquor loving women and men both will relish this dish full of colors. The wine makes it much attractive with its color and the aroma fills the air. The funniest part is that wine changes color as you heat it. Broccoli is cut into spears, lengthwise.

The main ingredients used to prepare it are the olive oil, the spears of broccoli, chili flakes, garlic thinly sliced, orange and lemon.
One can use red or white wine, or experiment with ideas.
