Do we really need another oversized, artery-clogging burger? McDonald’s has finally added a bigger high-end Angus burger to its menu that costs a little more for the extra weight. Tested in California, this Third Pounder is really super-sized and delicious, says the reports.

It comes in three varieties at $3.99 each – the Angus Deluxe, Angus Mushroom & Swiss and Angus Bacon & Cheese. Each is made with a one-third pound, 100-percent Angus beef patty on a bakery-style sesame seed roll. Ingredients include fresh leaf lettuce, red onion rings, fresh tomatoes, sauted mushrooms and natural Swiss cheese.
Now what comes in my mind is whether this new item is a health food or not. The Consumerist says the new burger weighs in at a hefty 760 calories and 41 grams of fat. Add bacon and the burger shoots up to a whopping 860 calories and 48 grams of fat! But surprisingly (or not), the burger is a hit and may lead to the business offering it on a national scale.
Fast food chain, McDonald’s has given a competition to other fast food restaurants like Burger King and Hardee’s through this new arrival. And that seems to be a pure rivalry indeed! If McD’s had really wished to go high end, it should have emerged with something healthier for the lot. It would have been appreciable if it had introduced a smaller, leaner burger with fresh veggies and a whole wheat bun.
The burger costs $3.99 but I won’t mind paying some extra money for a reasonably healthy menu product. What about you?

The Angus third pounder, especially the deluxe one, is GREAT! It looks nothing at all like that stupid picture accompanying this article. The dark green lettuce, the red onions, all contribute to the very very good taste. A quarter pounder does not even compare...these third pounders, at least at the McDonald’s I go to, compare to a hamburger perfectly grilled in a backyard.
McDonald’s always had a smaller leaner bun in the form of salad sandwich. No it is not a sandwich as the name says. It is a burger, giving choice to healthy eaters.
It is better to visit the meat processing plant, which provides Angus patties to McDonald’s. They give better idea of how a food chain operates at the back-end, especially with its special ingredients
