A recent report shows that Lance Nesta, a military man, founded a 44-year old gift wrapped fruit cake in his mother’s attic, which he claims is in the same condition as it was 44 years back. Well, the report does not say anything about the taste of the 44-year old fruit cake, but it does say that the contents had rum and brandy, which if revealed to Nesta 44 years back would have lured him to eat the ‘old fashioned fruit cake’.

If it surprises Nesta as to how the cake stayed for such a long time then may be he is not aware of the fact that when fruit cake is drenched well in alcoholic liquids and wrapped well in foil and cloth it stays for years. As per facts the ingredients were rum and brandy and the fruit cake tin was untouched since the time it was mailed to Nesta by his aunts, so this just proves why Nesta finds the cake in the same condition. The fruit cake reminds me of my previous post on the fifty year old roasted chicken hamper, which stayed the same because of the juices in which it was preserved. I would again appeal the giants in the culinary industry to take a cue from that...44-year old fruit cake, prepared in an old fashioned way, way back in 1962 tells about the old way of preserving food products, by being economic and healthy too.
